The Northern Ireland Examining Board (CCEA) contacted the Abbey Christian Brother’s Grammar School, Newry during the week to congratulate six pupils for achieving either 1st, 2nd or 3rd place in their GCSE exams that had been completed last May/June.
This is a magnificent feat given that normally each school only receives a few awards each year. Nine different awards were given to the six very able students that are now studying a variety of subjects at A-Level.
Three pupils achieved one of the top positions in two of their subjects. Stephen Begley was first in Northern Ireland in GCSE History and joint second in GCSE Music. Sean McClory was joint first in GCSE Irish and joint third in GCSE English. Steven Corcoran was second in GCSE Drama and joint third in GCSE French.
More success came the way of the Irish and English Departments with Daniel McAlinden getting joint third in GCSE Irish and Philip Knox getting joint second in GCSE English Literature. The Science Department are also celebrating the Double Award results with Kevin McManus getting third in Northern Ireland.
