DRUGS AWARENESS PLAY VISITS THE ABBEY

‘Rush’ is a multi -media play concentrating on the effects of drugs misuse on ordinary young lives. The play explores the issue of hard drugs, such as heroin, and the effect of drugs on aspirations and quality of life. This production was developed in consultation with the Health Promotion Agency and Dunlewy Substance Advice Centre and complies with Northern Ireland Drugs Policy.

‘Rush' is a play produced by Class Acts Promotions Ireland Ltd. The play has been warmly received in schools, colleges and theatres throughout Ireland and teachers have commented positively on the impact that the performance has had on students.

The play was presented to the Year 11 students of the Abbey Grammar School as part of their Personal, Social and Health Education curriculum.

Teachers and pupils welcome members of the cast from ‘Rush’ to the Abbey Christian Brothers’ Grammar School, when the performed a drugs awareness play, highlighting the effects of drugs misuse on young lives.

Included are fourth year form / PSHE teachers, Mr G Morgan (S1A), Mr D Wadsworth (S1B), Mr G Patterson (S1C), Mrs D Simpson (S1D) and Mr J Smyth (S1E) also included is Mr A Lennon, Teacher in charge of taught pastoral care, who coordinated the event. Chatting with the visitors are prefects from each class, Stephen Begley and Philip Knox (S1A), Niall Hatchell and Francis Boyle (S1B), Mark Doherty (S1C), Stephen McDonald and Andrew Mullan (S1D) with Gerald Mallon and Patrick Malone (S1E). Missing is Rodney Conway (S1C).
