Abbey GLEOing after award

The Abbey Christian Brothers' Grammar School has been honoured by Foras na Gaelige for its contribution to spoken Irish.

In total 21 schools throughout Ireland were honoured at the GLEO ceremony in Dublin last week. GLEO was introduced by Foras na Gaelige as part of its goal to normalise the Irish language on an everyday basis. It aims to recognise schools that provide the perfect environment in which to encourage such usuage from a young age.

Abbey Christian Brothers' Grammar School was recognised for their outstanding commitment to spoken Irish, inside and outside the classroom. This year the number of students taking Irish for A' Level has increased. Students take part in various competitions including Scor and also play sport 'as Gaeilge'. A number of students aslo do work experience in the local Gaelscoil.
