In recognition of their respect and affection for the late
Br. Beausang, the local branch of Conradh na Gaeilge
(Craobh an Iúir) presented a perpetual trophy to the Irish
Department in the Abbey Grammar school which is
awarded annually to the top oral student in sixth form.
This is the third year for the trophy to be presented and
this year's recipient is Diarmaid Ó Diolún. The trophy is
presented together with a cheque to cover the full fee of a
three week course in the Donegal Gaeltacht and
Diarmaid intends to return to Machaire Rabhartaigh
where he completed the Gael Linn course last year also.
The first winner of Sciath an Br. Beausang was Antaine
Ó Cuaig from Mullaghbane who is currently studying
Irish for his degree in TCD and the 2002 winner was
Seán Ó Cearbhaill who is sitting his A level
examinations at present. Pictured here presenting the

Iúir) and Seoirse Ó Dubhthaigh.
