In recognition of their respect and affection for the late Br. Beausang, the local branch of Conradh na Gaeilge (Craobh an Iúir) presented a perpetual trophy to the Irish Department in the Abbey Grammar school which is awarded annually to the top oral student in sixth form.

This is the third year for the trophy to be presented and this year's recipient is Diarmaid Ó Diolún. The trophy is presented together with a cheque to cover the full fee of a three week course in the Donegal Gaeltacht and Diarmaid intends to return to Machaire Rabhartaigh where he completed the Gael Linn course last year also.

The first winner of Sciath an Br. Beausang was Antaine Ó Cuaig from Mullaghbane who is currently studying Irish for his degree in TCD and the 2002 winner was Seán Ó Cearbhaill who is sitting his A level examinations at present.

Pictured here presenting the trophy are Treasa Mhic Aoidh Bhuí (rúnaí Chraobh an Iúir) and Seoirse Ó Dubhthaigh.
