Abbey Pupils Present Cheques To Charity

As a result of four Non-Uniform days, students of the Abbey Christian Brothers' Grammar School were able to present cheques to the value of over £6,000 to various local charities.

Some of the beneficiaries of these non-uniform days are: Mrs. Rosemary Waterson (Voluntary Services Coordinator for Newry Hospice), Mr. Gervase McCartan (Cancer Research), Fr. Mark Nolan OSB (Benedictine Monks), David Heatley (PAPA Resource Centre), John Carr (St. Vincent De Paul).

Other cheques were presented to Action Cancer, Lourdes Invalid Fund, The Samaritans and The Tanzania Environment Programme.

Pictured presenting the cheques are Emmett Fearon, Vincent O'Rourke, Ronan McDonald, Kieran Jennings, Cailim Quinn, and Darren O'Hare together with Dr. Sean Fee (Head of Science ) who coordinated the fundraising.

The Abbey would like to acknowledge The Corn Dolly, Friar Tucks (Sugar Island), The Shelbourne, Sainsbury's, O'Reilly's The Sweet People and the Celtic Corner Shop for the help given throughout the year .
