The Abbey Grammar School, Newry, has won the All - Ireland Schools' senior Irish Drama Award a the National Festival in St. Patrick's College, Dromcondra on Friday 11th April 2003.
The play "An Scrúdú Béil" (The Speaking Examinations) which takes a humorous look at the tensions surrounding oral examinations, a topical subject for this time of the year.
Written by Abbey's Head Of Irish, Mr Seán McClory, the play won the U16 section of the festival in which schools from all over Ireland including gaeltachtaí competed.
Students involved include : James Ashe, Niall McCoy, Macdara O'Graham, Chris Rodgers, Cathal Cully, John Dougan, Conor 0'Neill, Damien Brady, Steven Devlin, Raymond Morgan, Aidan Deery and Seán Carroll
