Pictured here are members of Craobh an Iúir de Chonradh na Gaeilge, all old friends of Brother Beausang, who attended the Annual Presentation of the Beausang Shield to the 6th year student who made the greatest contribution to the promotion of Irish in the Abbey school for 2003-2004. This year’s recipient is Macdara O’ Graham, who was judged the winner on the grounds of his efforts in Public Speaking, Scoildrámaíocht and his overall contribution to the Irish language life of the school. For his efforts Macdara received a generous cheque to the value of £200 towards a gaeltacht course. Macdara is the son of Pádraigín Ní Uallacháin and Len Graham, so small wonder his interest in matters linguistic and cultural! The Shield is presented annually by Craobh an Iúir in fond memory of an Brathair T.F. Beausang who did so much in his lifetime to encourage interest in Irish in the Abbey and in the wider community.
