ABBEY GRAMMAR PRESENTS CHEQUES TO LOCAL and INTERNATIONAL CHARITIES

As a result of four non-uniform days, First Year students, Ben Hughes, James McNulty, Aidan Rushe, David O’Hale, Connor McCann and Niall Strain (Oriel 1) from the Abbey Grammar Christian Brothers’ Grammar School were able to present cheques to the value of £6000 to various charities.

The beneficiaries of these Non-Uniform days were: Newry Gateway (Matt Flynn, Annette Quinn and Ann McCoy); IWA Sport (Laurence Mc Givern); Breakthrough Breast Cancer (Gerald Morgan); Zambia Project (Mark Grogan), SANDS (Stillbirth and Neonatal Deaths Society) (Steven Guy), Action Cancer (Lucy Latewood) and Newry Hospice (Kristen King). Also in the photograph is Dr. Sean Fee (Head of Science) who co-ordinated the non-uniform days.

Laurence Mc Givern will also represent Ireland at the IWAS World Junior Games in New Jersey, USA, in July 2008. Laurence is one of three athletes who will represent Ireland in swimming at the Junior World Games for wheelchair and amputee athletes. He is a member of the Irish Paralympic Squad and will compete in the backstroke and freestyle events.
