Abbey Present Cheque To SANDS Charity

As a result of the last Non-Uniform Day, four sixth form students (Paul White, Conor Mc Comb, Adam Morgan and Shane Quinn) from the Abbey Grammar Christian Brothers' Grammar School were able to present a cheque of some of the money raised to the local SANDS charities. Also in the photograph are: Mrs. Anne 0' Hanlon (SANDS Group) and Dr. Sean Fee (Head of Science) who co-ordinates the fundraising.

SANDS is a charity which was set up in UK in 1978 to offer support to bereaved parents whose baby was stillborn or died soon after birth.

The local SANDS group offers counselling, information and most importantly confidentiality to parents and their families following the loss of a baby or miscarriage. The network of SANDS is supported by parents who have suffered the loss of a baby.

Their support and information services are available at any time from before to long after bereavement. This can be achieved through support groups or on a one to one basis. The local SANDS group offers bereaved parents the time to share their experiences with other parents who know how it feels to lose a baby. .

The local group meets on the last Thursday of each month at 8.00pm in the sitting room, Mental Health Dept. , Daisy Hill Hospital.

Our range of resources for bereaved parents and families include leaflets, books, information sheets, CD's, SANDS own Newsletter and Website www.uk-sands.org. As a charity we rely on fundraising to be able to supply these.
