Old friendships were renewed and great triumphs recalled at the Carrickdale Hotel on Friday 20th February as the Abbey Grammar CBS, Past Pupils' Sports Association held its annual Sports Presentation, Dance and Cabaret Night.

The association's president, Aidan O'Rourke, welcomed the guests, some of which travelled from as far as England, Scotland and America to attend the highly anticipated evening which was as usual a resounding success.

On the night various teams and individuals were honoured including the school's successful football teams of 1954, 1964 and 1974 as well as those past pupils whowent on to become All-Ireland Senior Football medal winners with Down and Armagh. Assisting with the presentations were Joe Kernan, Sean O'Neill, Paddy Doherty and Paddy Moriarity.

One of the highlights of the evening was the induction into the Hall of Fame of Michael Jennings. Michael,who over the years was an outstanding athlete, brought much honour to the Abbey through his performances on the track as well as on the GAA field. His inclusion alongside such sporting greats was lauded by all present and is a fitting tribute to the Glenn man's achievements. The award was presented to Michael by another distinguished past pupil, Seamus Mallon.

Special tribute was also paid to former vice-president of the Past Pupils' Sports Association and GAA stalwart T. P. Murphy who died last year. T. P. was a member of the Newry Shamrocks club and served the GAA with great distinction and nobility at all levels over the years; his passing was sadly mourned by all in attendance.
