TONY McENTEE RETURNS TO THE ABBEY GRAMMAR

Tony McEntee

Armagh footballer Tony McEntee took time out of his busy schedule preparing for an All-Ireland Final match against neighbours Tyrone to return to his old school The Abbey Christian Brothers' Grammar, Newry.

He was the distinguished guest at the school's Achievement Prizegiving, where he presented certificates and plaques to numerous pupils. Tony and his twin brother John attended the Newry School from 1988 to 1995. During these years the 'twins' won Corn na nÓg cup medals in 1991 and Rannafast Cup medals in 1993. Even though both have won Ulster and All Ireland medals with their county and their club, Crossmaglen Rangers - one of their biggest disappointments was not winning a MacRory Cup medal to add to their silverware haul. However Tony is looking forward to Sunday's big match, hoping that he can add a second All-Ireland medal to the one he won last September.

Mr Dermot McGovern thanked Tony for coming in to present the Achievement Awards and wishing him luck in the Final. Tony was then presented with a specially designed 'poster which displayed a collection of photographs showing the "twins" playing for the Abbey, playing for Crossmaglen Rangers, playing for Armagh.

However the talking point of this montage was not the large photograph of John and Tony lifting the Sam Maguire Cup in Croke Park last year, but rather the photo entitled 'Discussing Tactics From an Early Age' which showed the twins as babies - appropriately captioned 'the bonniest babies in Crossmaglen'.
