My FirstYear In The Abbey

Richard Gilmore

When the post arrived that morning , telling me whether I was getting in or not, I was really excited because I had been really impressed by the open night. I opened that yellow envelope and read down the letter until I found it , I had been accepted into he Abbey Grammar School. I felt great. Later on that summer I got my uniform , school shoes ,stationery and school bag.

When the time came for my first day which was only a half day , I was really nervous because I had been hearing stories about the school which were anything but good, but I was not going to let this spoil my first day . My mum left my friend and I up to the doors and then we both walked in to the gym where at least one hundred and thirty boys were sitting down looking as nervous as I was . The head master entered and he made a speech and finally he split us into our classes I was in Breffni one . Our form teacher Mrs McEvoy seemed to be very strict but as the year went on I started to see that she was not so bad .

I joined the orchestra after about a month and I would recommend it for anyone who enjoys music . I think the Abbey is a great school and it will be even better when the new school is built . At the start of the year I was not really sure whether I had made the right choice of school but now I am sure I did . The Abbey Grammar is GREAT .
